FOUNDATION FOR SILICON FACTORY TO PROMOTE THE ENVIRONMENTALLY PROTECTIVE SOLAR ENERGY

The solar energy is part of Orklas priority programme. Orkla invests 2,7 billion NOK building a new factory for producing pure silicon solar cells at Elkem Solar in Kristiansand. Kynningsrud's foundations divisioin, Kynningsrud Fundamentering, has got two contracts of steel core piles for five sections of the factory.

Two contracts with Elkem Solar
One of the contracts is with the american industrial consultants company Fluor, that acts as Elkem Solars agent in the construction phase. The second contract  is run by Hydro Production Partner. All in all Kynningsrud Fundamentering delivers 4.650 metres of steel core piles, worth 27,7 billion NOK. The project startet in April and will last until September.

Defiant task
Hallingdal Bergboring AS executes all of the drilling work. The drilling demands quite huge dimensions because of the the ground conditions characterized by leftovers of wood and steel products. It has been quite a challenge to foreman Steinar Holing, who manages both quite demanding projects at the same time.
The steel core piles are prepared at the stock in Fredrikstad.

Process technology protecting the environment
The commitment to solar energy is based on new and environmental protective processtechnology, an unique research and development staff and will create about 140-150 jobs. The first regular deliveries of Elkem Solar Silicon will follow in the middle of next year.
